Greendale High School’s G-Harmony Choir did great in the Quarterfinals of The ICHSA (International Championship of High School A Cappella) annual competition, which brings together the best high school A Cappella groups from across the country. (Familiar with the popular movie “Pitch Perfect”? This is the high school version of the competition that the movie is based on.) This was G-Harmony’s first year competing and it was a huge success for GHS G-Harmony to qualify for Quarterfinals! The Great Lakes region of ICHSA is one of the most competitive in the country and G-Harmony was 1 of 50 groups that were accepted to compete in the 5 quarterfinals competitions. (The top 2 out of 10 from each Quarterfinals goes to Semifinals. The winners of the Semifinals compete in New York to be the ICHSA Champions.) These groups perform a 10-minute set of music with only their voices, recreating the sounds of the bands and artists they're covering through creative arrangements and singing styles. Groups choreograph their movements to help tell the story based on the music they're singing. This year, the GHS set was choreographed by student Kennedy Kapocius. G-Harmony scored well and learned a lot from our judge's scores and comments. It was fun to watch the excitement and creativity of the other groups, and they can't wait to see what next year has in store for them! Congrats, Panthers! #LearnGrowEngageGreendale #CultivatingExcellence #PantherPride

Sports & Entertainment Marketing Class Fantasy Football Champs Crowned
First semester Sports & Entertainment Marketing classes at GHS learned about management and marketing of a pro-football team in a different country in the year 2035 through a comprehensive fantasy football project. Students were split into semester-long teams, conducted research on the city and country’s demographics, culture and history; developed a marketing plan featuring team names, logos/branding, merchandising, concessions, stadium services, and other aspects of running a pro team. Collaboration, communication, and teamwork, plus mastery of college-level material was necessary for success in this project.
The student groups placed their “NFL International Division” teams in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Cape Town, Milan, Madrid, Istanbul, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, and Amsterdam. Each team had to draft a letter to the National Football League requesting to be admitted into the league as a new franchise. These groups had to manage the ups and downs of a football season drafting players and dealing with injuries, trades, and pick-ups. Additionally, students had to manually score their games (looking at data, numbers, and knowing how to use it) while cooperatively working with the opposing teams. Congratulations to the Dubai Golden Falcons (Hour 1) who edged the Madrid Ibex (Hour 3), 91-87, in the International Football League Championship. #LearnGrowEngageGreendale #CultivatingExcellence

"I AM" Project Celebrates Hispanic Heritage and Helps Students Believe in Themselves
In late September, Spanish 5 & 6 students in Theresa Kruschke-Alfonso's classes at Greendale High School wrote "I am" sentences using positive descriptions of themselves. They then told their partners the positive attributes they believe they have and they could add to their list. Then they made posters which are now hanging in the hallway. This is one way to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month - with building Spanish language, but it is also a positive way to help students believe in themselves. The students thought it was a fun project and their posters turned out great! #LearnGrowEngageGreendale #CultivatingExcellence #PantherStrong

Sources of Strength Team Launches Campaign to Help Students Identify a Trusted Adult
The Greendale High School Sources of Strength Team has launched a new campaign in February! One of the best ways to help a young person manage life's challenges is to establish and promote relationships between teens and caring, connected "Trusted Adults". A Trusted Adult could be a parent, an older sibling, a relative, employer, teacher, coach, faith leader, or community member - anyone that a young person could reach out to. The Trusted Adult campaign focuses on helping students identify, name, and connect to an adult they could go to if they were experiencing a difficult time or if a friend needed help. As they started the campaign, the peer leaders identified these characteristics of trusted adults, and posted them for all to see. #WeAreInspiringMinds #PantherStrong
