Free and Reduced Lunch | Application Process
The Food Service Department will begin accepting paper applications for the 2020-2021 school year on July 20, 2020. Paper applications will be sent electronically to families on July 20, 2020, and will also available at school offices and at the district offices.
Families may receive notice of eligibility through the mail without completing an application. If you receive a letter from the school district confirming your eligibility for free meals, you do not have to complete an application. This service is provided by the Department of Welfare. This process is referred to as Direct Certification.
Important facts when filing an application:
- Meal benefits are awarded for each school year, so any meal benefits from last school year will expire 30 school days after the start of school year.
- Benefits DO NOT transfer between school districts. Families new to the district must complete a new application as soon as possible. You will be responsible to pay charges accrued prior to submission of your current year application. Please submit your application as soon as possible to avoid meal charges.
- In order to qualify for free meal benefits, families must submit a new application for school year 2020-2021, unless you have received a letter of eligibility from the school district.
- Families may reapply for benefits at any time during the school year. Families are especially encouraged to submit a new application if they experience a decrease in household income, become unemployed, have an increase in family size, or qualify for Food Stamps.
- Please return your application to your student’s school office or mail to Heidi Ebben, 6815 Southway, Greendale, WI 53129
- Applications for free and reduced meals in Greendale School District are available under the National School Lunch, School Breakfast. Eligibility is based on household income.
- Applications are also available in English, Chinese, and Spanish at the food service office by calling 414-423-0110, ext. 4313.
