Greendale Schools has been authorized by the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) as a Wisconsin Seal of Biliteracy Program. DPI defines proficiency through the achievement of benchmark scores in all skills of a language: listening, reading, speaking and writing and/or receptive and expressive (American Sign Language). High school students who have demonstrated proficiency in bilingualism, biliteracy, and sociocultural competence in two or more languages, including a language learned through instruction at school, and/or their home language, and English, are eligible to earn the Seal of Biliteracy certificate.
Students earning the Seal of Biliteracy certificate receive multiple benefits, including official notation on their transcript, the potential for post-secondary (college) credit, and increased employment opportunities. Each student is also recognized at Greendale High School senior honors and graduation ceremonies with certificates, honors cords, and designation in the printed program booklet.
Complete information on the Wisconsin DPI program is available on its website.
If you have any questions or wish to test in your home language, please contact your child's World Language teacher or the World Language Curriculum Facilitator and High School Spanish teacher Theresa Kruschke-Alfonso.
