Pupil Services/Special Ed

Greendale Schools offers a continuum of services for children who qualify for special education and related services, aged 3-21. All children suspected of having a disability are referred for an evaluation to determine if they have a special need in one or more of the following areas:

• Autism
• Intellectual Disability
• Emotional/Behavioral Disability
• Hearing Impaired
• Speech/Language Disability
• Visually Impaired
• Traumatic Brain Injury
• Specific Learning Disability
• Orthopedically Impaired
• Other Health Impaired
• Significant Developmental Delay

If a child is determined to have a special education need, an Individualized Education Program (IEP) is developed to identify the necessary goals, instruction, support and related services so that the child may benefit from the educational process. Parents are an integral part of the evaluation and the development of the IEP. 

The Greendale School District works actively to locate, identify, and evaluate all children with disabilities within our enrollment area. Elementary School Counselor, School Psychologists and School Social Workers

A major goal of education is to promote personal growth, and to prepare pupils to become literate and motivated workers, caring family members, and responsible citizens.  Students encounter personal, social, economic and institutional challenges. Strategies are essential to address these challenges, promote success and prevent educational failure. School social workers and school psychologists are trained to provide appropriate prevention and intervention strategies to remove barriers to learning.  These professionals are partners with other educators, parents and the community, working to: maintain high expectations of all pupils, facilitate pupils reaching their highest potential, foster optimum teaching and learning conditions, and prevent school failure.

School social workers and school psychologists respond to teachers, staff and parents concerns about students at risk.  Together they work to develop, implement and evaluate programs to help students. They may intervene in areas related to students’ learning opportunities, achievement, personal-social functioning, and the need for change in the interaction of school, student, parent and community.
