The Citizen Facilities Team was formed in 2022 in alignment with the District Strategic Plan goal to "Support innovation to remain competitive and a district of choice for families."
To do this, Greendale Schools plans strategically to care for its facilities within the resources available. The District has engaged a diverse group of students, parents and community members in this work to help refine the priority levels of capital project plans over the next five to 10 years using available resources. Beginning in December 2021, the District and its Citizen Facilities Team met to consider a long range facility plan that supports learning opportunities aligned with flexible educational access, including indoor and outdoor spaces.
During the process, this citizen group visited all school buildings, discussed recent renovations and debated potential criteria for prioritizing future facility projects. In addition to this monthly work, the District also held open community work sessions to gather feedback from all community members.
The result of the work is a tool that Greendale Schools will use to prioritize all capital projects for school facilities in alignment with key criteria. These criteria fall under the categories of Health and Wellbeing, Infrastructure, and Mission Alignment. These projects will be scored by District Safety Team and Administrative Leadership Team members.
The Citizen Team will reconvene in December 2022 to evaluate the effectiveness of the tool and discuss how the process informs planning for Summer of 2023.
