Greendale Schools Board of Education Meetings
Greendale citizens are encouraged to be active participants in meetings of the Greendale Board of Education. Except for duly noticed closed sessions, all meetings are open to the public and noticed in accordance with the open meetings law.
Opportunities for Citizen Participation
Citizens are encouraged and welcomed to address the Board of Education, utilizing one or more of these opportunities:
- Community Comment: A Citizen Comment period is offered at the beginning and end of each Board of Education meeting. Persons wishing to address the Board at the start of the meeting are asked to state their name and address for the record and limit their comments to only one (1) time per meeting, speaking no longer than three (3) minutes. Citizen comments shall generally be limited to a period not to exceed thirty (30) minutes. Comments and/or questions from visitors can pertain to or address the agenda or additional items. Comments offered at the end of the meeting may be limited to five minutes.
- Letters and Emails: The Board invites letters and emails from citizens. A letter/email addressed to the Board president should be copied to all members as well as the Superintendent.
- Telephone Calls: Greendale Board of Education members do not have offices in the District. Individual numbers are found on the Member Bios page of this website.
The Greendale Board of Education encourages families to address specific concerns or questions regarding their student or their student’s classroom first with the teacher. The school principal and district administration may need to become involved, if appropriate.
Expectations for Conduct
Members of the public who attend meetings of the Board of Education should be aware of the official nature of the proceedings and that the president of the Board of Education is the presiding official. Loud outbursts, demonstrations, or other activities determined by the president to be disruptive to the proceedings are prohibited during meetings.
Individuals may address the Board when called upon to do so by the president. The public is asked to refrain from having conversations in the meeting room while a Board of Education meeting is in session.
The Board of Education will not hear complaints of school personnel. Instead, such comments will be redirected to the Superintendent for follow up.
In accordance with the intent of the open meetings law, please be aware that although the Board of Education welcomes comments from the public, it cannot discuss or debate items not on the agenda. Discussion by the Board of each agenda item will occur during the cited portion of the agenda.
Board Agenda Procedures
In accordance with the intent of the open meetings law, the Board will not respond or take action on any item not published on the agenda. Should audience members wish to request an item for a future agenda, they may contact the Board President or Superintendent who will consider the item for a future agenda as appropriate. Such factors as time, agenda and urgency of the proposed request will also be considered.
