Originally built in 1965, construction was recently completed on the Canterbury Elementary School. The project, funded by the 2018 $33.8 Million Facilities Improvement Referendum, provided updates in four main categories deemed important by the Greendale Community:
- Increasing security and school safety
- Improving learning environments
- Creating flexible and adaptable work spaces
- Improving building efficiency and sustainability
The 2019-2020 renovation included a new secure main entry into the newly constructed school office, classrooms, multipurpose room, and kitchen. Renovations to the existing gymnasium (including a new gym floor), library, general classrooms and music education area were completed. A new parking area was created, along with a new traffic flow pattern for pick-up and drop-off. New security doors, cameras and locks were installed, and the building was secured for community use of various areas such as the gym and MPR during off-hours. An elevator was also added to replace the existing lift for increased accessibility. Air conditioning was added, along with LED lighting and occupancy sensors in the new areas.
