Assistive technology services in the Greendale School District provide support to help students with special needs reach their full potential. The assistive technology service providers work with teachers, therapists, educational support staff, parents and families of students, outside agencies, as well as the student. Together, the school team plans and provides the technology, tools and services a student needs in order to access school programs and curriculum.
Assistive Technology is a device or a service that is determined by an IEP team to be necessary to provide a student with educationally relevant and necessary access to a FAPE (free appropriate public education) in the least restrictive environment."
It is any tool or device that a student with a disability uses to perform a task that he or she could not otherwise do or any tool the student uses to do a task more easily, faster, or in a more efficient way. It may be a simple “low tech” device such as a pencil grip or an expensive “high tech” device such as an iPad.
